Stephen Haber was awarded the Jonathan Hughes Prize for excellence in teaching economic history from the Economic History Association in 2013. Nominated by his former graduate students, he is the first Stanford professor to win the honor.

In 2012, he received Stanford’s highest teaching honor, the Walter J. Gores Award;  he was cited “for his unswerving dedication to excellence, which has inspired students and colleagues alike for more than two decades.” In the same year, a panel of Phi Beta Kappa seniors selected him for the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize at Stanford University on the basis of his excellent teaching and ability to inspire personal and intellectual development beyond the classroom.

Haber also received the 2009 Allan V. Cox Medal for Faculty Excellence Fostering Undergraduate Research,  awarded each year to a professor with a strong record of directing undergraduate research.
